CUHSM FAQ - Common Questions - QCDR Qualified Clinical Data Registry

  • How do I enroll?
There is no CMS enrollment process when reporting through a QCDR; you simply engage a QCDR and begin the process of QPP reporting on provider services rendered.

  • When should I start reporting?
In 2016 you must report on 50% of the applicable cases for a 9 measures that cover 3 NQS Domains; these providers should design their office workflow to start their reporting processes as soon as possible to meet the 50% threshold by the end of the year.

  • If I use the QCDR process for QPP reporting to CMS, does my staff need to continue to code the the extra CMS-1500 fields normally intended for Claims?
Although the QCDR reporting process does not directly use the CMS-1500 codes, it is helpful to keep this coding in your practice's workflow.  The codes do apply in specific measures.  In case CMS changes reporting requirement, it is best to keep your office workflow processing all CMS-1500 fields

  • Why is it helpful to have the entire CMS-1500 billing dataset available for the reporting process?
--This data establishes a reliable denominator baseline for all measures.
--The CMS-1500 dataset is where CMS will start any internal processing of the QCDR data of your organization.
--It makes it much easier to select the optimum measures applicable for your practice.

  • Where can my office get a complete CMS-1500 dataset?
From your billing company/clearinghouse, from your billing software, or your practice management system.  Any software that manages the CMS billing process should be able to print out periodic (usually monthly) detailed CMS-1500 reports.

  • Is it necessary to include all fields in the CMS-1500 dataset?
Only the non-financial data is needed from the CMS-1500 dataset.  Any dollar figures can be scrubbed.  For HIPAA security, The patient ID/SSN should be replaced with an identifier that the practice associates with it's patient (i.e. MRN)

  • What is the easiest way to process the CMS-1500 file?
Import it into a spread sheet and process away!

  • What if none of those measures apply to my practice?  Will I be penalized?
If none of the measures apply to your clients’ diagnosis and treatment, contact CMS’ QualityNet Help Desk: they can either help you find applicable measures or make sure you’re not penalized if you can’t report.  866.288.8912, qnetsupport@sdps.org
